The Formatting Process

After months or even years spent strategizing, writing, rewriting, and editing your carefully prepared manuscript and ensuring all the words are perfectly formatted in your book so as to provide your reader audience with the best possible reading experience, you now need a professional book typesetter with impeccable attention to detail; down to every line break, hyphenation, and chapter heading. Typesetting is both an art and a science. It must maintain consistent style between its structural layout and design in order to be presented as a polished and publish-ready print book for commercial markets. This end result demonstrates a level of professionalism that instills lasting confidence in the mind of your potential buyers.

Our professional typesetters take your manuscript and craft print layout designs matching themes and genres. Nonfiction books, such as art/photography books, cookbooks and travel books, usually require more complex page layout designs than text-only books. Children's books also tend to be more complicated regarding the relationship between text and illustrations in page layout design, requiring extra careful layout formatting methods.

FAQ

Will typesetting mean my book will be thoroughly edited too?
Not at all. The typesetting process is the next step after your book has been edited. Typesetting is an interior design/layout of your book that uses your final edited manuscript.

Can you style my font size for large print books?
Yes. If you want your book in large print, we can arrange to format the text and appropiate content to make it into a large text book.

What types of file formats do you accept?
We accept Microsoft Word files including; .docx, .doc and .rtf.

How many changes can I make?
You can make up to two rounds of revisions. Significant changes or additional content that is added at the last momment by the author will incur additional late fees.

How much does it cost?
The task fee for formatting/typesetting services is based on the total number of words in your final manuscript, the total number of high-resolution images (if applicable), as well as the complexity of your page layout design. Our service also includes creating your book’s imprint page along with all copyright details, page numbering that matches the Table of Contents and back cover wording text. On average, fees for our internal page formatting/typesetting services range from $550–$950 for children’s book projects; $700–$1,950 for text-only book projects; and $1,000–$2,750 for text and image-based book projects. These prices are for books up to 500 pages.

How long does it take?

The Four Phase Process of Document Typesetting

Introductory Review

We work only with finished manuscripts. After you upload your manuscript using our online portal, we will go through your manuscript page-by-page and format your book using the final, approved page design, transforming your manuscript into what will ultimately be your finished book pages.

Design

At this stage of the process, we ask for a small deposit. We than go to work designing the overall layout of your book’s interior. We will send a sample of pages for you to review, including suggestions on fonts and sizes for the body text, headings, and chapter pages. It will also include any other textual and visual elements in your book that add to the overall aesthetic feeling and reader experience. We’ll then gather your feedback to finalize the design of your book’s interior which will be used as our custom template for typesetting.

Final Typeset Manuscript

At this time, you will read through your book one more time, which is now formatted, as it will look in your printed book.

Review and Completion

After your final review and approval, we will request the remainder of your balance.
