Services Overview

What is manuscript polishing?

A manuscript is more likely to benefit from polishing if the author is new to publishing or is writing in English as a second language. Other manuscripts which may be more intense or have intricate sentence structure may also require additional refinement to meet professional publication standards. Our manuscript polishing service provides comprehensive copy editing to ensure grammatical and stylistic correctness. However, we also go beyond basic editing by improving sentence structures, replacing weak or vague word choices, and enhancing the overall flow and readability of the text. In some cases, entire passages may be rewritten to strengthen presentation. Our manuscript polishing process is conducted with the utmost care and attention to detail. We are committed to delivering an expertly polished final manuscript at competitive market rates, offering excellent value for the investment and saved time and frustration for the author..

How do I know if my manuscript requires a polishing?
A manuscript may only need a light polish in some areas to improve clarity or flow. However, other works may benefit greatly from more intensive polishing. An example might be a comprehensive rewrite of certain sections in a manuscript. No matter the amount of correction of details, our goal is to provide honest and helpful feedback and recommendations that will help authors strengthen their work and prepare it for publication. Trust our team of industry manuscript professionals to elevate your draft to the next level.

When you first submit your manuscript to us at Queensland Self Publishing, one of our experienced editors will undertake a thorough evaluation of your  manuscript's editorial needs. As part of our assessment, our manuscript polishing team will carefully review your manuscript to determine if any polishing or refinement is required. Their evaluation will note whether your manuscript requires minor touch-ups or more substantial revisions. Authors can feel rest assured that our experts will deliver an honest assessment tailored specifically to their manuscript. Whether a light polishing or a major recommended revision, authors will benefit from the expertise and experience of our expert editorial team.

Our manuscript polishing service includes:

Word-by-word Inspection
Correction of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors.
Word usage review and sentence structure so your intended message is expressed concisely and clearly.

Cliché detection and Removal
Cliches are one of the most common mistakes made by new authors. Cliches regions in your manuscript that because of overuse, have lost their impact. What was once a fresh written way of looking at something, has now become a weak and empty word structure that reads unimaginative and dull. We are experts at Cliche detection and removal.

Paragraph weaknesses and Strengths
You know your strengths and weaknesses as a writer, however maybe you are using too much backstory in certain sections of your manuscript.  Perhaps this has led to you struggling so hard that your characters end up reading as one-dimensional. We scour your manuscript for these errors and offer guidance where needed so that your characters become multi-dimensional and immersive within the mind of your readers.

Frequently overused words
These are simply words that take up space. Overwording makes a manuscript dull, boring and predictable.

Excess Sentences
All rough manuscripts have excess sentences and words. Many famous authors say to “Kill your darlings.” Your manuscript must advance the story in order to become a great book. We remove excessive verbose sentences and unnecessary paragraph structure so readers undergo an engaging reading experience.

Review
A general editorial ‘tidy up’ that polishes your written content and enhances the overall appeal of the text.

Mark Twain told writers to “forget your weaknesses and focus only on your strengths.” If you feel your piece is weak, go back through and exploit your strengths instead.
